

Poster Contest - Starts in January each year to create a "keep our community beautiful" awareness in our elementary children. The artist of the best poster in each grade is given an "art basket" prize funded by First Security Bank. The seven posters become the basis of the flyers publicizing Beautification Days. Posters will be judged March 23, awards were given out April 1. Childrens art posters, Beautification Days and Thumbs Up flyers will be put up throughout town between March 28 and April 1.
Thumbs Up Awards - Recognizes the
efforts of residents, businesses and
institutions in keeping their properties
attractive in Thompson Falls. Each year
6 awards are given out in 3 categories:
residential, business, institution. Two
areas are recognized; (a) most improved
and (b) consistent, continuous effort in
upkeep of property. Nominations are
mailed to P.O. Box 1208, Thompson
Falls, MT 59873 by May 31st. Judging
will be done with awards to be
announced by June 15th. Funding for the
purchase of the Thumbs Up caricatures is generously provided by First Security Bank, Valley Bank and Whitefish Credit Union.



Elderly and Handicapped Program
Identifies residents in Thompson Falls who need assistance with yard clean up, pruning, hauling to the refuse site etc. A Project Form needs to be filled out by Friday, April 8. A screening group evaluates the equipment needed and arranges manpower to complete the projects.
Letters are being sent to area Churches, 4H groups, Girl Scouts, Garden Club, Womens Club in March. These will include sign up sheets for projects and for volunteers.

Recyclables Sites: The County Transfer Site will be open usual days of Thursday and Saturday (closed on Friday). They will accept at no charge 4 automobile tires per household per day, latex paint, office paper, magazines, phone books, aluminum cans, car batteries, old licesnse plates, newspapers, cardboard, sealed 5# containers of oil, plastics 1 & 2, and glass.
There will be a Paint "Swap" area, folks may exchange paint or pick up what they need.
Junk Cars & Major Appliance Disposal: Publicizes the state junk car pick up and disposal program and arranges for disposal of unwanted refrigerators and freezers. Freon is removed at no cost during Beautification Days by Joe Stout of Appliance Repair. Fill out a project form to have freon removed and/or fridges transported. Blackfoot Telephone is sending a crew to Thompson Falls. They will be bringing their equipment to assist with pruning in the Rose Garden & Ainsworth Field area and with other special projects as needed.
Businesses: The Chamber of Commerce encourages businesses to "spruce up".
Street and Alley Cleanup - The School superintendent has created a grid of City areas and entrances to town and organizes elementary, junior high and high school students to take on this project.
Road Clean up in Surrounding Areas - Work with various community organizations to pick up debris on entry roads to the city of Thompson Falls.
